Chelsea are looking to make it three wins on the bounce in all competitions, after also beating Maresca’s former side Leicester City last weekend, and many will fancy the Blues after a very promising season so far under their new manager.

They’ve even been tipped by some to contend for this year’s league title, but Maresca has been quick to quash any talk of a domestic crown this campaign, highlighting how there are still significant areas of improvement to be had.

“We can improve a lot. The other day against Leicester, we can learn that in football, what is in one way can change in a second,” said Maresca on Chelsea’s current form.

“The first half we scored, had a goal disallowed, had three or four more chances, and in that point we have to be clinical and make it 0-2 or 0-3, and make sure the game is finished. But we concede something and the game was still alive, so even after that game, we can improve things and we’re going to try.

The fact he is now an England regular means he may still come at a premium, and Chelsea are not his only suitors, with Newcastle still firmly in the race for his services.

وتقام البطولة في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية بين 15 يونيو و13 يوليو 2025، بنظام المجموعات، حيث وقع الأهلي في مجموعة تضم فرقًا قوية مثل إنتر ميامي الأمريكي، بالميراس البرازيلي، وبورتو البرتغالي.

وتعد بطولة كأس العالم للأندية المقبلة هي النسخة الأكبر من حيث المشاركة، حيث تستضيفها الولايات المتحدة بمشاركة 32 فريقًا، من بينها أربعة فرق إفريقية، على رأسهم الأهلي الممثل الوحيد لمصر، إلى جانب الترجي التونسي، الوداد المغربي، وماميلودي صن داونز الجنوب إفريقي.

Michael Jones missed out on a second century of the season against the Foxes but Durham moved into a slender lead over the home side on day two of their LV= Insurance County Championship match, albeit with five wickets lost.The Scotland top-order batter, who made 108 against Leicestershire at Chester-le-Street in April, fell for 97 this time after being dropped on 80, but it was thanks largely to him that Durham closed on 239 for five with a 37-run advantage over the side at the bottom of Division Two.Left-arm spinner Callum Parkinson, the Leicestershire skipper, took three for 43 with a feeling he might have bowled himself more on a pitch giving him some help. Veteran seamer Chris Wright picked up two well deserved late wickets.Earlier, England pace bowler Matthew Potts had taken six for 52 as Leicestershire were dismissed for 202, debutant Sol Budinger failing to add to his 63 not out overnight but finishing as his new side’s top scorer.Having resumed on 97 for two, Leicestershire were all out by lunch – albeit one delayed by the fall of the ninth wicket. West Ham are without a win in all competitions since late August, with their last victory coming against Bournemouth in the EFL Cup. Since then, Lopetegui has watched his side fall to Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City while also being held against Fulham and Brentford in the Premier League.

While it is still very early days, questions are being asked about West Ham’s lack of memorable moments in games, despite the quality and fresh new additions to choose from.

Some critics believe Lopetegui is at risk of losing his job if their form doesn’t pick up quickly, with West Ham also unable to call upon striker Niclas Füllkrug, who is still recovering from an achilles injury and unavailable for selection.

“I think there’s more pressure on him after what David Moyes managed to do,” said ex-West Ham recruitment chief Mick Brown to Football Insider this week.

“When 60,000 people are saying they don’t want this and they want a different type of football, the board have had to be careful with their decision.

“It’s always difficult trying to judge what the owners and directors will do. Their knowledge of the game is not great and they’ve made many mistakes in the past. Fullkrug’s absence has exposed West Ham’s lack of striker depth, for both the present and for the long-term. Indeed, Danny Ings and Michail Antonio are on the wrong side of 30 and out of contract next summer, leading to the club’s reported interest in Eintracht Frankfurt star Omar Marmoush.
